FOLK Etc
About us

FOLK Etc has played mostly traditional Irish and some North American folk music for over ten years. The music genres and the group make-up have changed over the course of these years. In the beginning we played mostly bluegrass and old-time American music; gradually, we turned to traditional Irish music.

We perform at Plečnik and other medical concerts, exhibit openings, and receptions at international professional meetings. We are busiest during the month of March. On March 17th, Ireland's national day (St. Patrick's), we perform at the reception of the ambassador of the Republic of Ireland. Also during March we hold a performance for the students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. Since traditional Irish music is mostly dance music, we repeatedly accompany the dancers of the Šola irskega plesa (School of Irish Dance). We also play in Irish pubs and other venues in Slovenia.

We strive to play as authentically as possible and therefore regularly attend workshops in Ireland, Belgium, Italy, and Austria. By listening to recordings of traditional Irish and Scottish performers we get fresh ideas for our own continually expanding program. Our greatest influences are the bands The Bothy Band and Lunasa.

The tunes we play are traditional or without known authors. Our program always includes O'Carolan's compositions, in this case "Carolan's Air" and his first tune "Sheebeg and Seemore". Songs were part of our regular program and have been revived by Tine and Ksenija.
